  10.           1.   About This File
  11.  
  12.                This file  provides a  quick summary  of the features of
  13.           PAL, including a description of how to order it.  
  14.  
  15.                If you  are placing  the shareware  version of  PAL on a
  16.           computer bulletin  board, please  upload this file separately
  17.           so that callers can download it to get an idea  of PAL before
  18.           committing  themselves  to  the lengthy download required for
  19.           the program files and documentation.

  21.           2.   Summary
  22.  
  23.                PAL is the Personal  Appointment Locator  that radically
  24.           improves your ability to manage your time.  
  25.  
  26.                Prior versions of PAL were designed as an enhancement to
  27.           SideKick's calendar facility.   Commencing with  version 2.0,
  28.           PAL stands  alone and  does not require SideKick to function.
  29.           Although PAL still enhances SideKick (not SideKick Plus), PAL
  30.           now contains its own internal Appointment Scratchpad.

  32.                PAL is  being distributed as shareware, which allows you
  33.           to try before you buy.   If you  wind up  using PAL,  you are
  34.           required to register and pay for it.
  35.  
  36.           3.   Some Significant Features of PAL
  37.  
  38.                Among other things, PAL can:
  39.  
  40.                *    show a  report of  your coming appointments for the
  41.                     next "n" days.
  42.  
  43.                *    search for a particular appointment,
  44.  
  45.                *    maintain a to-do list which will tickle you  if you
  46.                     fail to do something after a specified date,
  47.  
  48.                *    set a virtually infinite number of alarms,
  49.  
  50.                *    run reports on multiple SK appointment files,
  51.  
  52.                *    automatically  repeat  appointments with tremendous
  53.                     flexibility; e.g., every  third  Wednesday  of each
  54.                     month  beginning  this  month  and continuing for a
  55.                     total of nine repetitions.

  57.                *    delete old appointments,
  58.  
  59.                *    run with or without SideKick,
  60.  
  61.                *    provide online help,

  63.                *    show common secular and  religious holidays automa-

  79.           4.   What About SideKick Plus?

  81.                PAL does  not yet read SideKick Plus time manager files,
  82.           though this ranks high  on our  list of  future enhancements.
  83.           If you  are intending  to use  PAL as  a stand alone product,
  84.           this does not concern you at all.  But if  you will  be using
  85.           SideKick with  PAL, you  are probably wondering what features
  86.           of SideKick Plus you might miss if you  stick with  the Side-
  87.           Kick/PAL combination, or, on the other hand, what features of
  88.           SideKick/PAL you'd miss if you  go  to  SideKick  Plus.   The
  89.           following tables may help you.

  104.                Things you may miss  in SideKick  Plus if  you stay with
  105.           SideKick/PAL:

  107.                     *    More than 26 characters in the memo field
  108.                     *    Optional notepad attaches to the calendar
  109.                     *    Move and copy appointments
  110.                     *    Dial the phone at pre-appointed time
  111.                     *    "Paste" text at pre-appointed time
  112.                     *    Search for a vacant time slot
  113.                     *    Show graphic schedule of appointments
  114.                     *    Change available time slots and resolution
  115.  
  116.                We are  committed to upgrading future versions of PAL to
  117.           ensure that they will  remain compatible  with SideKick Plus.
  118.           This will  not involve the purchase of a new program from us,
  119.           just an upgrade of the existing  PAL.   Registered users will
  120.           receive notification of the availability of this upgrade.

  122.           5.   Obtaining PAL as Shareware
  123.  
  124.                The  shareware  version  of  PAL  is  being  distributed
  125.           through BBS's, user groups, and person to person.  
  126.  
  127.                On BBS's, look for the following files:

  129.                     PAL2A.ARC      (which contains the main program),

  138.                     PAL2B.ARC      (which contains  demonstration files
  139.                                    and the resident alarm program) and

  141.                     PAL2C.ARC      (which    contains    the   complete
  142.                                    manual).

  144.                The  latest  version  of  these  files  will  always  be
  145.           available from  the PAL  Software NY, Inc. bulletin board, at
  146.           telephone number 914-762-8055.  This BBS operates 24  hours a
  147.           day, at 300, 1200, 2400 and 9600 (USRobotics) baud.

  149.                If you want to avoid the download time, you may obtain a
  150.           shareware disk from us for $3.00.   Just  fill out  the order
  151.           form at  the end of this file and send it in to us.  You will
  152.           also receive a $3.00 coupon  which  can  be  applied  in full
  153.           against a future purchase.

  155.           6.   Obtaining the "Commercial" version of PAL
  156.  
  157.                Persons  who  try  PAL,  like  it and intend to continue
  158.           using it are required to register  and  pay  for  it.   Paid,
  159.           registered  users  receive  the  latest  version of PAL.  The
  160.           registered version  is  identical  to  the  current shareware
  161.           version, except that users of the shareware version must pass
  162.           through a request for registration at  the conclusion  of the
  163.           program.   In all  other respects,  the commercial version is
  164.           identical to the shareware version.

  166.                Although the  registered version  of the  program is not
  167.           substantively  different   from  the  unregistered  shareware
  168.           version, you do receive additional  benefits  in  the  way of
  169.           support as outlined in the documentation and you will receive
  170.           notices of upgrades.

  172.                There are two levels of registration:

  174.                     a)   $35.00 -- disk only (with disk-based 
  175.                                    documentation)
  176.  
  177.                     b)   $49.95 -- disk and printed manual

  179.           7.   How to Order From PAL Software NY, Inc.

  181.                If you would like  to avoid  the long  download time for
  182.           the program  files and documentation, you may obtain the most
  183.           recently available shareware version of PAL for $3.00.   This
  184.           offer is made for your convenience in obtaining a copy of the
  185.           shareware version, and payment of the $3.00 defers  our costs
  186.           and does  not constitute registration.  The $3.00 you pay may
  187.           later be credited against a future purchase.
